The international day of rural women was created in 1995 by civil society organizations at the fourth world conference on women in beijing and was declared an international day in 2007 by the united nations general. The day recognizes “the critical role and contribution of rural women, including indigenous women, in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty”.
